California law requires everyone to refrain from injuring others due to their “willful acts” or lack of “ordinary care” in their activities.  This is known as the law of “negligence,” which functions to provide compensation to persons hurt by the misconduct of others.  Also, owners of property owe certain duties to visitors to avoid their injury.
